Free Easy Crochet Pattern : Hades the Black Cat Coaster 🐈⬛

Black cats have such a bad reputation. They've been associated with Halloween, witches and bad luck, but they're simple cats who are only seeking cuddles and catnip, like any other cats!
I no longer have the privilege of owning a cat, but my brother has one which is all black (except for its funny-looking grey crest), and it is called Hades. I'm naming this pattern in her honor, Hades the absolutely-not-diabolical-cat!
This is an easy and accessible pattern for crochet beginners, which you can make in any colour you'd like and offer to all your loved ones.

Pattern Notes
This pattern is worked in a spiral, so there's no need to turn your work. Use a stitch marker to identify the beginning of your row.
You can use any type of yarn for this project, but cotton could be a good idea as it's easy to wash.
The diameter of the coaster is 4.25 in (not counting the ears and/or the tail).
Special Instructions : Half Double Crochet Decrease
To make a half double crochet decrease (2hdctog), start just like you would a regular half double crochet (yarn over, insert hook in st, pull through), but instead of yarning over once more and pulling through the 3 loops on your hook to finish, you'll repeat the first part in the following st and THEN, you can yarn over and pull through the 5 loops on your hook.
For a double decrease (or 3hdctog), you'll repeat the first part of the stitch a third time before yarning over and pulling through 7 loops on your hook.
